Last
year about this time, a Catholic nun in Italy went to the hospital with
stomach pains and, much to her surprise, ended up delivering a baby boy.
Different year, different nun, same result: This time, a 31-year-old
sister in central Italy was taken to the hospital with severe stomach
cramps, and an ultrasound quickly revealed the reason, reports the Local.
She delivered her boy a few hours later, and both mother and baby were
doing fine. It's not clear what happens next, but Italian newspapers
report that her fellow sisters in San Severino Marche have expressed an
interest in helping raise the child.
Details differ in various accounts, but Yahoo News
reports that she is believed to have arrived in Italy from South
America in June, already pregnant but unaware of the fact. The nun who
gave birth last year is now a former nun and is said be happily living
in Rome with her son. Her story seemed to have a logical explanation,
eventually: She reported returning to her native El Salvador to renew
her passport and running into an old boyfriend during the visit, notes Jezebel.
